Three of Sapir’s senior and junior faculty will be presenting at the annual College Art Association conference, the United State’s most prestigious Art History Conference, to be held virtually and in New York City from 10-13 February.

Prof. Einat Lachover and Dr. Inbal Ben-Asher Gitler from the Department of Communication, are convening a session titled Gender and Miniaturization in Visual Culture. In addition to chairing this session, Dr. Ben-Asher Gitler and Prof. Lachover will be presenting their study “Gendered Memory and Miniaturization in Graphic Design: Representations of Women in Israeli Postage Stamps.” They analyze images of women in official postage stamps and discuss these stamps’ implications for the visual articulation of gender within national culture.

Ms. Adi Hammer-Yacobi, a teaching assistant at the department of communication, will be presenting part of her PhD research in the same session, in a lecture titled “When Does a “thing” become a “figure?” When does a “figure” become “she”? Ms. Hammer-Yacobi’s presentation examines feminine representation through the practice-led research of Israeli designer Yaacov Kaufman, who has produced over 1000 miniature figurines made from raw materials, that function as three-dimensional sketches.
