"Fata Morgana" is a joint animation project of the Negev Film Fund and the Gesher Multicultural Film Fund, in partnership with the Cinema South Festival and the Association of Animation Professions, which encourages the field of animation in the Negev by supporting local creators and producing films about the Negev. This is the fourth year of the project, and we are pleased to present seven additional films in a pre-premiere screening, offering distinctive perspectives on the unique space of the Negev.
I Hear Everything | Shahar Arapov
Shahar, age ,30 suffers from extreme misophonia - a sensitivity to mundane noises such as chewing, sirens, airplanes, motorcycle engines, babies' cries and more. This film tracks his journey in dealing with the unbearable distress caused by these noises through various failed therapy attempts, as his sensitivity distances him from friends and loved ones and threatens his partnership. Ultimately, Shahar chooses a radical solution: he leaves the big city for Yeruham —a quiet town in the South. Yet noise hounds him even in the desert. The film depicts Shahar's struggle to find calm - internal and external. Will he succeed in reaching it?

Jamila (16) works in a packing plant sorting sweet potatoes. She doesn't have an Identification number (I.D.), so she can't study at school, earn a living, or receive medical treatment. She is denied the possibility to dream of a better life. Her ambition to receive a university degree and teach mathematics in her village seems distant and unattainable. In the meantime, with no real power in her life, she is trapped in a loop of attempts to prove her existence.

One of the drawings makes Tom ponder about the meaning of the question itself and its relevance to life in Israel. Eventually he comes to the conclusion that “What do you want to be when you grow up” is not the right question to ask and suggests some alternatives.
SABATAJ | Adam Magrala
Following the mysterious death of his mother and other residents, Eli Sabataj, a 65-year-old senior technician at the nuclear reactor in Dimona, suffers a prophetic attack in which the prophet Elijah appears to him and sets him a condition - either he destroys the nuclear reactor and redeems his community, or else, his mother, Savtataj, will never enter the gates of Heaven.
During a cricket game between the Dead Sea Plants team and the Dimona Nuclear Development Town team, Eli’s mother, Savtataj, suddenly dies after his powerful hit. Shocked, Sabataj sees the prophet Elijah collecting his mother’s soul to the afterlife. At the end of the shiva, drunk and grief-stricken, Sabataj spots Elijah again gathering more souls. Terrified, he faints and falls into a prophetic trance where Elijah sets him a condition- to destroy the reactor or condemn his mother’s soul forever. Torn between national duty and his Jewish faith, Sabataj must make a fateful choice.
