Tal Shem Tov
Tal was always wherever she was needed-leading, initiating, and doing everything quietly and modestly.
She graduated from the Animation track at the School of Audio and Visual Arts at Sapir College. Her classmates describe her as the delicate thread that connected everyone. She loved animation and had a gift for infusing humor into every piece she created.
During her studies, Tal lived and worked on kibbutzim in the Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council until she later moved to the Bnei Shimon Regional Council, where she founded and led the department for Community Safety. For Tal, this wasn’t just a “job”-it was a mission, a way to bring light and goodness into the world. She always thought about at-risk youth in the region, knew them personally, and saw it as her duty and privilege to help create a better future for them.
As part of her work, she initiated a series of programs for at-risk teens. The flagship program, Shimon at Night, involved a mobile unit towing a trailer that patrolled the area, picking up teens and offering them an alternative. The program received the Local Government Award for Innovation. Tal was also involved in many other projects, even beyond the scope of her official role.
She contributed to other fields as well, such as developing Ben Shimon Trail that connects the various communities; Pnei Sadot, which makes agriculture accessible to children; and road safety awareness programs.
In addition, she was a gifted amateur photographer who had a unique ability to capture rare and touching moments through her lens. Tal helped anyone in need—individuals, groups, or entire communities—anything that caught her eye: from stray animals to helping renovate homes, to offering a listening ear to families in the south following the events of October 7th.
She was a beacon of light and kindness. Her untimely passing is an immeasurable loss. Her radiant spirit and good heart are dearly missed in the world she left behind.
The presentation of the Light of Giving Award in her name, as part of the Negev Student Film Competition, is a special way to carry on Tal’s legacy-spreading light. We thank her beloved family for their boundless generosity.
