Man and Violin tells the story of Sfa’tayim, a band from Sderot that was the first to boldly bring the Moroccan language to center stage- forever changing the landscape of Israeli wedding culture and music.
What had once been modest henna celebrations- kept humble out of shame toward Moroccan traditions- began turning into big business, supporting an entire industry of costume designers, set decorators, pastries, and above all: music.
Moroccan culture was reborn and returned with full force. Sfa’tayim recorded six albums before breaking up in 1998, following a violent incident between band members. Thirty years later, band leader Haïm Uliel suffers the sudden loss of both his brother and his son. Realizing that the only way to rebuild his life is through music, he sets out to reunite the band.
