Sukari
Israel | 2025 | 15 min. | Arabic | Hebrew & English Sub. | Fiction
Kamela (75) feels that something is wrong—her blood sugar won’t stabilize, even though she takes her medications diligently. Her husband, Subhi (82), a pharmacist, is frustrated, convinced she is neglecting herself and insists she isn’t following the regimen. When she asks one of their children to take her to the doctor, he refuses—he is the caregiver, the one who knows best. But as his confusion becomes more frequent, Kamela realizes something is shifting. She sets out alone to the pharmacy, determined to understand what’s happening. The mess she discovers in the medications, along with the pharmacist’s questions, confirms Subhi’s cognitive decline. Back home, as she carefully arranges her pills on her own, she confronts the shift in their dynamic—and the quiet, undeniable approach of the end.
