China, late 1990s: through the eyes of a six-year-old girl, adults pass by like shadow-winds on a hot day, leaving behind piercing memories of family, longing, and a rapidly changing world.
Chi, a six-year-old girl, lives year-round with her mother’s family while her father works in the Shenzhen special economic zone and rarely comes home. On a hot afternoon in the late 20th century, she observes the adults around her — their figures flicker and fade before her eyes like shadows.
