Silence - Studio Darom Participants 2018

Synopsis

A story about the struggle of one man against a mighty machine. Arie (45) is a glazier and single parent to a teenager – Matan (15), living in a neighborhood adjacent to the airport. The film follows Arie's stubborn attempts to stop the deterioration of the citizens' quality of life due to the constant noise from the planes. The story takes place in a downtrodden neighborhood in Or-Yehuda; Arie's neighbors have become is alternative family since his wife dies, but he confronts the destructive System on his own. Despite his motivation and perseverance, despite his belief that he is doing right, Arie will soon find out this is not an easy fight to win. When he does win in Court but the verdict says the citizens shall be transferred rather than the airport shifting its strip, a solution he hadn't thought of and doesn't like at all since it will tear apart his new family – he tries to take it all back. Arie must now fight for the community, for his own home, with nothing but justice to his side, and he is crushed by the Establishment's bureaucracy and corruption to the point that it seems like everything he has so carefully built is starting to collapse.

Eliran Elya | Director

screenwriter, director and educator. Born and lives in the city of Or Yehuda. After studying filmmaking and directing short films he returned to his high school as a film teacher. He already has shot two short films and a feature film Doubtful, which got nine nominations at the Ophir Awards (Israeli Oscars). Silence is his second feature as screenwriter and director.

L. Benasuly ProducIons is a boutique production company that specializes in prime-Time drama series for Television. The company was lunched in early 2016 and based in Tel Aviv. Producer and owner, Liat Benasuly, was the co-owner of former Tender Productions (that ended it’s activity in the end of 2015) which has produced among others: Fauda season 1, which is considered ground-breaking in Israeli television and sold to 219 NETFLIX Territories, Kfulim (false flag), Homeland season 2 (Production services), Dig (with Keshet broadcasting), Prisoners of War season 2 (Hatufim) – Israel's highest rated Prime-Time TV drama series (Keshet Broadcasting) upon which the American series Homeland was based on. Liat's new company is producing season 2 of Fauda, Ma ze hashtuyot haele season 5 and 6, Mashiach- a new comedy for keshet broadcasting and in development of several drama series for different broadcasters in Israel.
