Germany is in the midst of a fundamental reform of its film funding system. In order to better understand the reform that is currently being implemented, we will take a brief look at the history of German cinema film financing over the last 50 years and its public/private partnership structure. An amendment to the Film Funding Act has realigned a central pillar of German film funding for 2025. The reform was based on a broad industry initiative that aims to better reflect artistic and commercial success in the funding system.
This workshop will address questions such as:
- How can both artistic and commercial success be better rewarded?
- What does the reform mean for young filmmakers and talents?
- And what does the future of film financing look like?
Moderated by Martin Hageman, who were part of the German team who worked on the reform with the German government.
