A special workshop dedicated to the lifelong work of director Lena Chaplin, one of the most distinctive and influential voices in Israeli documentary cinema.
This session will focus on the collaborative spirit that has shaped her artistic journey - from her creative partnership with her late husband, director Slava Chaplin, to the enduring female trio formed with editor Bracha Zisman Cohen and producer Daniela Reiss.
The workshop will open with a screening of “Nissim Veniflaot” (1969), Chaplin’s graduation film from the Russian State Institute of Cinematography. The film explores the relationship between image and sound, following the work of sound effect artists in classic Soviet cinema at a time when synchronized sound recording was still technologically unavailable.
Following the screening, we will delve into Chaplin’s early career in the Soviet Union, her immigration to Israel, her unique cinematic gaze on Israeli society, and the fertile artistic collaborations that have shaped her rich and ongoing body of work.
