Like the coffee harvest they pick, Juana, Margarita, and Faustina have flourished and overcome a life of broken dreams, gender-based violence, and grief. The three Tzotzil women in Chiapas, Mexico, tend to their households, raise their children, and cultivate coffee on their land. A shared past in the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) opened their eyes to equality, autonomy, and their right to land ownership — empowering them to defy generations of patriarchal oppression.
With deep love and sensitivity, director Ana Ts’uyeb, herself from the community, crafts a tender portrait of women who have "died" in the social sense, only to be reborn. Like the cycles of coffee they grow, they too are ground down, reborn, and bloom again — a poetic ode to female resilience and rebirth.
