Few filmmakers manage to make the difficult transition from the cameraman's eye to the director's chair. It's a move that requires courage, practical wisdom, a great deal of emotional intelligence and, of course, tons of talent.
Claudio Steinberg is one of the few in Israel who managed to make this transition, while at the same time maintaining a fruitful cinematography career. His rich and diverse catalogue includes dozens of films - from full-length features, through independent documentaries, to short personal films. Alongside these, Claudio has raised generations of young cinematographers, who are indebted to him for the generous and particular support he gave them as they took their first steps in the field.
With his retirement, we are all united - staff members, students, lecturers and alumni - in the feelings of deep appreciation that we all have for this dear man.
At this event, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to Claudio for his years of dedication and generosity in teaching the profession. His signature of talent and professionalism is imprinted in the many hundreds of student films that have come out of our school.

Four electric shocks and seven minutes of unconsciousness marked my journey to death and back. I saw life flash before me- bright light, desaturated colors, and wide open spaces. I saw my wife, my children, my mother, my sister… even myself, acting in the first film I ever directed. But not my father. Him I didn’t see.
