Out of the underground dance clubs on the South Side of Chicago, a group of friends turn a new sound into a global movement.
In July 1979, amid America’s cultural and musical upheaval, “Disco Demolition Night” exploded into chaos. Vince Lawrence, a teenage usher, witnessed firsthand the backlash against disco - a genre that embodied freedom and pride. Undeterred, he used his wages to buy a synthesizer, sparking a journey that would redefine music.
In the underground haven of The Warehouse, where Frankie Knuckles crafted revolutionary sounds, Vince joined Jesse Saunders to form Z Factor - a scrappy collective of dreamers who recorded “On and On,” the first house anthem. From Chicago’s gritty dance floors to global festival stages, Vince’s story is a powerful testament to how a vision born from rejection became a worldwide celebration of unity and liberation.
