When talking about film criticism, two questions always come up, which contradict each other: "Who needs film critics anyway?" and "How does one become a film critic?". François Truffaut - who was a film critic and became a director - wrote in the introduction to his book "The Films in My Life" that every person has two professions - the profession in which they work, and film critic. In other words, anyone can be a film critic. Was Truffaut right? Can anyone be a film critic? Why can't you just take someone who likes to watch films, just a regular guy and not some snob from academia, and have them write about films? In the workshop, we will try to answer all these questions with brutal, but well-reasoned honesty. And also: is there such a thing as "objective" film criticism? What schools of thought are there in the world of film criticism? Will film critics and the audience always like different films? And we can even give some advice and tips to young film critics: should we write in the first person? Does a film critic who writes for a newspaper also have a role as a journalist? And in case we have forgotten something, we will also leave time for questions from the audience, as well as for criticism.
